Indiana coach Tom Crean and his coaching staff have done all they can in recruiting in-state prospects Paul Scruggs and Kris Wilkes, but that doesn’t make it any easier to land them.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the the situation told me Scruggs is very likely to end up at Xavier.  He has a strong relationship with Xavier coach Chris Mack, and one source told me Mack is recruiting with the assumption that he will get Scruggs.

Scruggs’ AAU coach, Mike Peterson, announced Thursday night that Scruggs will visit Indiana and Xavier next week, and also plans to take visits to Michigan State, Illinois and UCONN.

Scruggs is the 31st-ranked player in the 2017 class according to the 247 Composite. The Southport guard also has strong relationships with Crean, Tom Izzo and John Groce, and is looking forward to getting to know UCONN coach Kevin Ollie, who just got in the mix.

Scruggs also has interest in Louisville.

Kyle Simpson, Scruggs’ high school coach at Southport, reached out to dispute my report that Scruggs is very likely to go anywhere, saying Scruggs is “wide open”.

Wilkes’ recruitment is much more open than Scruggs’ is, but sources believe both Michigan State and Maryland will be strong contenders. The 14th-ranked Wilkes is also considering Indiana, Michigan, UCONN, UCLA, Washington, North Carolina and Xavier.
